Summary of the Program
OverviewÂ
In celebration of our 5th year anniversary, we see the need to engage in a community project as part of giving back to society. As an organization that has been at the forefront of equipping, training, and empowering African kids and teenagers on emerging technological and digital skills for global relevance, we understand the need for the young ones to have digital literacy knowledge because these kids have a lot of potential in them while most of them lack the opportunity to bring forth their creativity.
Coding is the language of the future and there is a need to involve the young ones in their early stages.
Why Ijoko
Ijoko is a community in Ogun state, Nigeria with a large number of people, both young and old. Though this community plays host to a few businesses, the major activity is petty trading. The children in this community have less access to technology and digital literacy skills. We visited some of the schools in the area, and we understand that most of them do not have computer training classes to engage the students, while their mates in other places are already building world solutions through digital literacy skills, and this is not too good in this 21st century.Â
As technology is the driver of mostly everything in the world, it is important to introduce young ones to the world of technology early so they can contribute their quota to not just solving the problems of the country, but the world at large.
About Ijoko ProjectÂ
Ijoko Programming Bootcamp is a free 1-week training that gives kids and teenagers between the age of 8 and 18 in the community, the opportunity to learn to program effectively and build projects. Learning to program gives kids more confidence with technology: The fact is, most students won’t go on to become professional coders, but whatever occupation they pursue, learning the basics of coding will give them a sense of confidence with technology.
The programming Bootcamp offers learning flexibility, high returns on investment, and extensive student support services. The Bootcamp also combines instructor-led sessions, independent study, practice assignments, and group projects. These programs provide opportunities to use industry-standard software and technologies. This ensures that students develop strong theoretical foundations and applied knowledge.
What We Will Be Training Them :
These kids will be introduced to the following courses:
- Robotics
- Scratch Programming
- Python
- Web DevelopmentÂ
The Objectives of the Program
- To foster critical thinking and creativity skills through ICT learning
- Encourage careers of underprivileged students through STEM Education
- To bridge the digital skills gap
- To sensitize students on science and technology
- To train students on the basics programming language such as Scratch, Python, and Web development.
Why we need your support
It is a great concern to us that most African children are not exposed to the use of technology at a tender age unlike their counterparts in the western world. In a bid to curb this issue, we are making technology more approachable by creating resources designed with empathy for the kids and teenagers in rural areas within Nigeria, and Abule Ijoko happens to be one of those places.
We want to catch their young minds and engage them with tools to help them learn, BUT we need support (funds) to make this dream a reality. The project is open to supervision by you just to foster a better relationship with Rubies Technologies.
Our overarching aim is to improve the learning outcomes and growing interests of children in coding. Our evidence is out there on all our social media platforms and on our website.
To properly initiate these young ones into tech, we will be having a week-long tech Bootcamp in the community, and to make it successful, this will involve financial requirements because of both human and material resources needed.
